R3forest - Tasks.
Task 1. The preparation
Firstly, local biomass from invasive species will be harvested and chipped to produce Green Waste Compost (GWC) and Wood Chip (WC) mulch. |
|
Task 2. The experimental setup
Then, contour bunds will be created and filled GWC and WC and 8 shrubs and trees species will be planted. These range from exotic to native species, given the stakeholders an array of potencial solutions to work with. |
Task 3. The measurements
Further, soil and vegetation measerements will be done during spring and autumn, as well as, insect pollinators that will be monitored. |
|
Task 4. Data analysis and sharing
Data collected will be shared in an open source and used as the basis for multivariate and plant diversity indices analyses to scientific publications. |
Task 5. The output
We expect that the data obtained will show that prioritizing these practises is of utmost importance to protect the soil, which is crucial for the systems’ resilience. These will show the benefits obtained from protecting and nurturing the soil outweigh by far initial management costs of the stakeholder.
